Clyde Weldon Eberhardt, Sr.

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 9, 2009
Clyde Weldon Eberhardt, Sr., of Roswell, Georgia, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, 19 days before his 9lst birthday. Mr. Eberhardt was preceded in death by his first wife Eileen (Sue) Eberhardt and second wife Kathryn (Kitty) Eberhardt, daughter Connie Eberhardt Royal and grandson Tony Eberhardt. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Clyde Eberhardt, Jr., (Shirley); Mary Ann Eberhardt Sikes (Dell); Thomas J. Eberhardt (Jeanie Lou); Steve Eberhardt (Dana); and Jean Eberhardt. Additionally, there are nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, his sister Mary Beth Kelly (Wade), one niece and two nephews. Special thanks to Jeanie Lou and Tommy Eberhardt for their constant care for the last two years.

Mr. Eberhardt was born in Carlton, Georgia, August 28, 1918. He served in the Navy in WW II. After his 13 years in the Navy, he worked for Armour Meat Company, going to John Marshall Law School in the evenings. He practiced law in Atlanta for the remainder of his career. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Mr. Eberhardt served on the Board of Stewards of Bethany Methodist Church for many years. As Scout Master at Bethany for over 10 years, his scouts marveled at his knot tying, camping and fishing talents. He spent many weekends at property in Douglas County that he purchased to take scouts on memorable camping trips.

At his first home in northwest Atlanta, he was famous for his roses. Neighbors, teachers and friends were frequent recipients of his rose bouquets. Later, he became an expert fruit and vegetable gardener. His plums, blueberries, figs and tomatoes were prized gifts to all his associates. At age 90 he still planted his tomatoes.

Beloved by his family, Papa Clyde, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed family get-togethers better than anything. â
