Charles C. Harper

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 14, 2009
Charles Clyde Harper was born January 8, 1923 to Guy Watson Harper and Juda Warren Harper. He was the middle of seven children born to his parents. He was born and educated in Hall County.


Mr. Harper served in the Army Medical Corp in World War II, serving in Texas and North Africa. He achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following World War II, he went to college on the GI Bill and earned degrees from Truett McConnell College and Mercer University.


He married Dorothy Allison on May 12, 1946 and they had two sons. Charles Wayne Harper was born March 3, 1947 and James Stanley Harper was born February 1, 1950.


He was called into the ministry in 1949 and served the following Baptist churches: Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville, Mt. Yonah Baptist Church in Cleveland and Chattahoochee Baptist Church in Flowery Branch. While serving as a Bi-vocational pastor, Mr. Harper was also employed as a school teacher. He retired from the Georgia Department of Labor.


Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Emmett Harper, Bonnie Harper Free, and Hoyt Harper.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Allison Harper; sons and daughters-in-law Wayne and Linda Harper and James and Lynette Harper; grandchildren Jon and Minnie Harper, Kim and Jason Southwick, Joy Harper and friend Frank Reddy, Allyson Harper, Andrea and Jason Brown; great-grandchildren Jake and Claire Brown and Devin Harper; siblings Maureen Harper Wilkes, Jack Harper and Bobbie Jean Harper Wolfe.


Visitation will be Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport, 355 Dawsonville Hwy, Gainesville, GA.


Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Matthews and Rev. John Fede will officiate. Mr. Harper will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
