Clermont daycare will not appeal license revocation

By B.J. Williams
ATLANTA - A Clermont daycare center where a 16-month-old toddler was burned last month has informed the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning it will not appeal its license revocation.

Reg Griffin with DECAL confirmed Wednesday morning that Discovering Basics on Cleveland Highway sent a letter informing the agency of its intent not to appeal the July 11 decision to pull the facility's license.

"They did dispute some of the facts of our investigation, as well as the investigation by local law enforcement," said Griffin. "However, they did not want to appeal the revocation."

Griffin said operators of Discovering Basics can apply for a new license in one year.

"Obviously we would take into consideration the fact that they had been revoked and the situations that led up to it. There would be a lot of questions about how they plan to operate in view of that," said Griffin.

Three people have been charged in connection with the June 13 incident that left the toddler with severe burns on one of his legs and his stomach. Sue Dupree, Tara Miller and Eddye Pittmon will appear in Hall County Superior Court for trial. (See story linked below for details.

A court date has not yet been determined.
