GAINESVILLE - Hours after responding to a lake incident in Forsyth County Sunday, Hall County Fire Services Marine Rescue divers were called to Old Federal Park in Hall County where a swimmer went under the waters of Lake Lanier and never resurfaced.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said people on the scene told rescuers that four young adults, believed to be in their 20's, were walking from shore to an island in the lake. One of them, a male, apparently stepped off of a sand bar and went under the water.

According to Cagle, people on the scene said the victim's brother jumped in after him but was unable to pull the victim out. Emergency officials got the initial call around 6:22 p.m.

Marine rescue divers recovered the victim. Cagle said no resuscitation efforts were started because the victim had been under the water for about an hour and no activity was indicated on the heart monitor. No other information was available.

Earlier in the day, Hall County marine rescuers were called to the scene of Three Sisters Island in Forsyth County after two males disappeared in Lanier. Cagle said a juvenile went into the water after a ball, became distressed and went under. An adult male went in after the juvenile. Both went under and did not resurface.

Hall County divers retrieved both victims, one in about 30 minutes, the other in about 45 minutes. Both were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Both were unconscious and unresponsive, according to Cagle.

Cagle said the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident. The initial call came around 2:00 p.m. While it was initially believed the location was in Hall County, Cagle said DNR stated it actually was in Forsyth County.
