Former Banks Co. schools supt., county comm. chairman dies

HOMER - Former Banks County Schools Superintendent Milton Patterson, who also spent some time as Chairman of the Banks County Board of Commissioners, died Thursday following an extended illness. He was 86.

His 30-year career in education included eight years as Banks County school superintendent and also a term as president of the North Georgia Superintendents Association. Patterson also was a former chairman of the Banks County Board of Commissioners, a position he held for eleven years.

Patterson was also actively involved in his church, Nails Creek Baptist, where he served as a deacon for 50 years. He and his wife of 61 years, Ruzelle Lewallen Patterson, were the first couple married in the church.

The funeral will be at 3:00 Saturday at Nails Creek Baptist Church.
