New bridge over Ga. 316 to open next week

LAWRENCEVILLE - Georgia DOT announces a project milestone is scheduled for next Saturday if weather cooperates.

The new State Route 20 Bridge over SR 316 will open for use Saturday morning, May 10. The new SR 20 features sidewalks and three lanes in each direction from Hurricane Shoals Road across SR 316 to Reynolds Road. The new bridge is 10 lanes wide, 3 lanes in each direction and dual left turn lanes to each direction of SR 316.

Crews will begin the transition from the existing SR 20 to the new bridge Friday night, May 9 at 9:00 with lane closures overnight until 8:00 Saturday morning. As the bridge opens for use, the new traffic signal at SR 20 and Reynolds Drive will become operational.

Once the project is completed, motorists on will access SR 316 via ramps instead of the existing intersections.

This $37.4 million construction project includes 2.23 miles of new roadway and two new bridges over SR 316. The project completion date is May 31, 2016.
