GHSA pushes back prep basketball playoffs in anticipation of weather delays

By staff
The Georgia High School Association announced on Monday that it will push the start of the state basketball playoffs by one day in anticipation of this week's winter weather.

The snow and ice forecasted for late Monday through Wednesday could force the postponement of a number of contests and set up several games in quick succession at the end of the week.

With that in mind, the GHSA posted this statement to its web site:

"Due to the impending ice/snow storm moving into Georgia, the first round of the 2014 GHSA Basketball State Tournament will be held on Wednesday, February 19 (Girls) and Thursday, February 20 (Boys). The revision in the schedule will allow regions affected by the weather, to complete their region tournament on Monday, February 17. Additionally, regions will have the option to schedule teams (2) games in a single day, providing there is a 4-hour interval between the scheduling of the games."

The first round of the basketball state tournament was originally scheduled to be played Feb. 18-19.
