Today is last day to register to vote in Nov. elections

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Today is the last day to vote in elections coming up Nov. 5 in Georgia.

Most of the elections that will take place Nov. 5 are city elections - such as those planned in Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Clermont.

Gainesville City Clerk Denise Jordan says the Gainesville website has been updated to provide "the most current election information." Sample ballots and absentee ballots are now available. Also, an election guide has been posted in hopes of summarizing everything a person needs to know about the upcoming election. Anyone desiring election information can visit http://www.gainesville.org/2013-municipal-election.
For those who are interested, page 2 of the guide provides 2011 Election Statistics.

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp reminded voters who are currently registered to utilize the Secretary of State's My Voter Page (MVP) voter education website to request an absentee ballot application, find the early voting locations and times in their county and more. The MVP website can be accessed at sos.ga.gov/mvp.

For Georgians who have yet to register to vote, there are several methods of registering to vote:

-Download, complete, and mail a voter registration application from http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/how_to_register.htm

- Contact your local county board of registrar's office or election office, public library, public assistance office, recruitment office, schools and other government offices for a mail-in registration form. A list can be found at http://sos.georgia.gov/cgi-bin/countyregistrarsindex.asp

-Registration is offered when you renew or apply for your driver's license at the Department of Driver Services.

-College students can obtain Georgia voter registration forms or the necessary forms to register in any state in the U.S. from their school's registrar's office or from the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Kemp said registration forms will be accepted until close of business today.
