Golf: Ralston, Cagle qualify for GSGA championship

ALPHARETTA -- Spencer Ralston, a rising sophomore and member of the 2013 GHS state champion golf team, fired a 3-under par 69 on Monday for a third-place finish at Alpharetta Athletic Club to qualify for a spot in the Georgia State Golf Association Amateur Championship.

The GSGA event will be held July 11-14 at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw.

Grant Cagle, a former Johnson High and current Georgia State golfer, shot 74 to finish tied for 15th and received one of the 20 regional spots available at AAC.

Qualifying is being held at ten different regional sites throughout the state during June to select 144 players to compete in the upcoming 72-hole Amateur Championship.

Jackson Bishop, also a member of the Gainesville state championship team and a rising senior, carded a 75 and won a playoff against twelve other golfers, received a first alternate position for the championship.

Also competing from Gainesville were Jim Foote with a 77 and Jameson Foote with a 94.
