NGCF kicks off Lunch & Learn for non-profits

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - The North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) is launching its Lunch & Learn series, a new program designed to help organizations learn more about current issues pertinent to the non-profit sector and to provide networking opportunities with other non-profit leaders.

The Lunch & Learn series begins Feb. 21 at the Community Foundation on Oak Street in Gainesville. The program will be held on the third Thursday of every other month from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Other 2013 dates are April 18, June 20, Aug. 15 and Oct. 17. Each session will feature a different topic and speaker.

"We are excited to offer our Lunch & Learn series and believe it will be helpful to the non-profits in our region," North Georgia Community Foundation President Jim Mathis said. "The series will cover timely topics, and non-profits leaders will be able to network and find ways to address common challenges they face running their organization."

The Feb. 21 Lunch & Learn features Bliss Jones, a CPA with Jones and Kolb in Atlanta. He will be providing valuable information on staying compliant with tax filing requirements. Jones specializes in providing accounting, advisory, auditing and tax services to non-profit organizations. He recently served on the Not-for-Profit Organization's Audit and Accounting Guide Task Force and Expert Panel as well as several subgroups that made recommendations on governmental compliance audits, 403(b) benefit plan audits and the 2009 revised Form 990 tax return.

Each Lunch & Learn cost $20 per person and includes a boxed lunch and drink. To register contact North Georgia Community Foundation Vice President for Programs Callie Flack at (770) 535-7880, ext. 226 or [email protected]. Registration for the first program must be received by noon Feb. 18.
