Brenau joins national business honor society

GAINESVILLE - The Delta Mu Delta business honor society tapped Brenau University to host the newest chapter of the 100-year-old organization.

The Brookfield, Ill.-based society, which operates on 240 campuses worldwide, recognizes academic excellence in baccalaureate, master's, and doctorate degree business administration programs. Delta Mu Delta selects students in the top 20 percent of their classes for lifetime membership. Currently more than 160,000 DMD members reside in 175 countries.

"Becoming a chapter in Delta Mu Delta is a very significant achievement," said Bill Lightfoot, dean of the College of Business & Mass Communication at Brenau. "It is further testimony to our students, alumni and the business community that our programs produce high-quality graduates."

Brenau qualified to apply for a DMD chapter when it won Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs accreditation in 2012. Delta Mu Delta chapters operate primarily at colleges and universities with ACBSP-accredited undergraduate and graduate business programs as part of a 1992 exclusivity arrangement between the two organizations. Only three other Georgia institutions have Delta Mu Delta chapters.

Delta Mu Delta officially marks its 100th anniversary on Nov. 8
