Volleyball: Lady Elephants dominate at Battle at the Branch

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Gainesville girls volleyball team had a strong showing Saturday at the Battle at the Branch tournament winning five of six matches.

The Lady Elephants (23-7) held off Winder-Barrow 25-14, 25-18, then beat Habersham Central 25-17, 25-13, Johnson 25-6, 25-18, George Walton Academy 25-22, 25-18 and North Hall 25-21, 25-16 before losing to Oconee County 25-16, 25-19 in the final match of the day.

Anna Walker and Kaylin Walden had huge days for Gainesville.

Walker had 73 kills, 22 service points, 11 digs and eight aces while Walden added 115 assists, 56 service points and nine aces for the Lady Elephants.

Lauren Carter had a team-high 39 digs, Stasha Hopkins had 33 service points, seven aces and 32 kills, and Grace Miller had 45 service points and eight blocks for Gainesville.
