Cumming woman charged after leaving son home alone

CUMMING - A 21-year-old Cumming woman is facing cruelty to children charges after leaving her two-year-old son alone in a home filled with garbage.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Capt. Tim House said a suspicious relative contacted them, saying they received a call from Stephanie Davis, who told them she was in jail and that someone else was watching the child. The relative told authorities that she had suspicions about that story.

House said deputies went to Davis' Boxer Lane home Friday and discovered the toddler locked in a room of the house without food or water.

"The child was dressed in a dirty white t-shift. He had removed his diaper himself and it was on the floor, filled to overflowing with feces. The child had feces on his hands, feet and legs," said Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton.

Paxton said the deputy took the child from the home, handing him to the other deputy through a window. Upon further inspection, the deputy also found what appeared to be bug bites, possibly from fleas, on the legs of the child.

"Deputies on the scene began to clean the feces off of the child and put a clean diaper on him," Paxton said. "Because of the disarray of the home, deputies could not tell if the clothes on the floor were clean or dirty. One deputy got clothes and food from his home and gave it to the child, while another went to a local store to get the child something to drink. Deputies said it was clear that the child was very hungry."

He said the child has been placed in protective custody while Davis remains in the Fulton County Jail.

In addition, authorities said two dogs were also discovered inside the home, including one that was contained inside of a cage. Both dogs were taken out of the home by deputies and given water and were later transported by Animal Control from the residence.
