Georgia Tech improves basketball academic score

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech's basketball team has bounced back on the NCAA's Academic Progress Report.

The report released Wednesday shows improvement for the basketball team, which lost a scholarship last year due to academic performance for the second time in three years.

The basketball team's single-year perfect 1000 for 2010-11 was the first for the sport and lifted its four-year average to 935. Last year, Georgia Tech's four-year average of 915 out of 1000 was below the 925 cutoff, forcing the loss of one scholarship.

Georgia and Georgia Tech avoided penalties in all sports.

Georgia's 970 APR for football tied for third-best in the Southeastern Conference, eight points behind Vanderbilt's conference-leading 978. Georgia Tech's 974 was the highest it has scored for football.

The Georgia men's basketball team's APR was 960.
