I was granted an exclusive interview last week with the jolly ol’ elf himself, Santa Claus.
Don’t scoff. This is Santa’s busy time of the year, and there are lots of reporters vying for his time. I heard that Savannah Guthrie was close to getting an interview for the “Today” show, but fortunately for me, she went out on maternity leave before she finalized the details.
CLEVELAND — Today’s excursion away from the Republican National Convention took us back in time. We visited a memorial to President James Garfield in historic Lake View Cemetery, about five miles east of downtown Cleveland.
CLEVELAND — “You’ll shoot your eye out.”
It’s an iconic movie line. Nearly everyone – his mother, his teacher, a department store Santa – tells that to Ralphie when he asks for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. And not just a BB gun, Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time" (it’s a sundial).
CLEVELAND — It’s only appropriate that on the 47th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s “one giant leap for mankind,” I visited the Great Lakes Science Center, home of a lot of NASA memorabilia, including the command module from the first Skylab mission in 1973.
