Authorities say house fire could have started from a vehicle in the driveway

A house in Lawrenceville was severely damaged by fire on Wednesday.  A neighbor on Mill Ridge Drive SW called 911 around 1:40 p.m. to report the house, along with a car in the driveway, were on fire. Moments later the caller reported that the car exploded.

When fire crews arrived, they found flames shooting from one side of a single-story, single-family home. A recreational vehicle stored on a trailer in the driveway was also on fire. Video footage provided by the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services shows that the recreational vehicle was almost completely destroyed.

According to a statement from the department, “Firefighters deployed multiple handlines and advanced into the structure where they encountered heavy fire in the attic while other firefighters applied a hose stream to extinguish the vehicle fire.” Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fires and they searched the house to confirm that no one was home.

No one was injured and the initial report says the fire was an accident. Investigators believe that the fire started with the recreational vehicle in the driveway.
