By AccessWDUN Staff

FLOWERY BRANCH — North Hall defended its Area 7-3A Duals title Saturday afternoon at the Cherokee Bluff gym.

The Trojans beat Lumpkin County in the semifinals and then pinned Cherokee Bluff 62-18 for the Area 7-3A Duals Championship.

Cherokee Bluff finished second with Lumpkin County third and West Hall fourth.

All four teams will move on to next week's Preliminaries round, a 32-team tournament to determine the top eight teams to advance to the Duals finals in two weeks.

BUFORD, HAB CENTRAL ADVANCE IN REGION 8-6A

Buford routed Habersham Central 72-9 in the finals of the Region 8-6A Duals on Saturday at the Habersham Central gym.

The Raiders finished as the No. 2 seed and both teams will advance to next week’s Class 6A Preliminaries.

Buford opened with a 60-18 win over Dacula and then knocked off Lanier 66-13 to get into the semifinals. The Wolves roughed up Winder-Barrow 77-3 before taking down the Raiders in the finals.

JEFFERSON, JACKSON COUNTY, COMMERCE WIN AREA DUALS

Three northeast Georgia area wrestling programs earned No. 1 seeds in the upcoming State Preliminary round after winning their Area Duals on Friday.

Jefferson held off Flowery Branch 58-12 to win the Region 8-4A Duals at home. The Dragons also should be a No. 1 seed and play host to a four-team bracket.

Commerce, which won six straight Class A titles from 2014 to 2019 until Trion snapped their title streak last season, won the Area 8-A Duals in punishing fashion at Towns County High School. The Tigers were perfect on the day beating Towns County and then Washington-Wilkes by identical 84-0 scores. The Tigers as well should be a No. 1 seed and play host to a four-team bracket.

And Jackson County won its first-ever region duals title, knocking off Walnut Grove 42-36 for the 8-5A title at home. The Panthers should be tabbed to play host to a Preliminaries bracket as well.

We will update our coverage of the the 2021 area duals as we receive information throughout the day.

(No other scores were available from other area regions as of midnight.)
