Girls basketball playoffs: Branch, Buford, Rabun move into region finals; GHS into semis; White County falls

GAINESVILLE — Ashley Woodroffe poured in 28 points, including the first 11 of the game, to lead Flowery Branch to an 80-39 thumping of Chestatee Thursday in the Region 7-4A semifinals at the Chestatee gym.

Flowery Branch exploded right from the opening tip with a 30-point first quarter and a 20-point lead. Chestatee never recovered

With the win the Lady Falcons (23-3) moved into Saturday's 6 p.m. finals against Marist, which beat White County 48-36 in the other Region 7-4A semifinals.

Caroline Wysocki knocked down 22 points to go with 5 assists and 4 steals for Flowery Branch. Ashlee Locke had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Morgana Aguilarr chipped in 8 points for the Lady Falcons.

 

GAINESVILLE 69,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 49

The Lady Red Elephants used a 22-6 third quarter to blow open a close game to advance to the Class 6A state playoffs Thursday night.
 
Tia Shelton (28) and Tija Blackwell (24) combined for 52 points for Gainesville. The Lady Red Elephants will take on top seed Lanier at 7 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.
 
Gainesville (12-12) led 16-9 after the first quarter but Habersham Central (5-18) rallied to within 29-27 by halftime behind a 13-point quarter from Nikerriah Brown. But Shelton and Blackwell answered with 20 points in the third as Gainesville took control.
 
Sadie Roach had 11 points for Gainesville.
 
Brown finished with 18 points to lead the Lady Raiders.
 
 

BUFORD 65,
CEDAR SHOALS 23

Buford had 11 different players score in a lopsided win to move into the Region 8-5A finals.
 
The Lady Wolves (23-2) next will play Clarke Central, a 48-45 winner over Loganville, in Friday's 7 p.m. at Walnut Grove.
 
Tate Walters led the way for Buford with 17 points.
 
 

RABUN COUNTY 71,
MONTICELLO 55

The Lady Wildcats (25-1) moved into the Region 8-2A finals with a dominating win Thursday in the semifinals.

Kaitlin Coleman had 17 points to lead Rabun County. Laken Stiles scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds and Destiny Deetz pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats.

Rabun County will take on Elbert County inFriday's 7 p.m. finals at Elbert County.

 

MARIST 48,
WHITE COUNTY 36

Marist used a 17-10 first quarter to grab the lead and pulled away late for a win in the Region 7-4A semifinals Thursday.

White County trimmed the lead to 27-21 by halftime and trailed just 35-29 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Lady War Eagles outscored White County 13-7 in the final period.

Dasha Cannon had 13 points and Bentley Cronic 7 to pace White County.

Marist will face Flowery Branch in the finals on Saturday while White County will take on Chestateein the third place game. Both games will be at Chestatee High School.
