Piedmont College names Habersham native Andrews as police chief

DEMOREST – Jim Andrews will be heading home to Habersham County to lead the Piedmont College Campus Police Department next month.

Andrews, a Habersham County native and deputy director o the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, will become campus police chief on Feb. 1 and will oversee departmental operations.

Andrews currently manages operations of five highway safety divisions that employ more than 30. Before joining that agency, he served as a state trooper for the Georgia Department of Public Safety and was a corrections officer at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute in Alto.

“Chief Andrews has more than 20 years of progressive law enforcement experience and has a background in operations management, employee development, planning, and communications,” said Tom Estes, Piedmont College interim vice president of administration and finance. “As a native of Habersham County, Chief Andrews knows Piedmont College and values the institution’s unique role in the community.”
