Girls basketball: Lakeview, Towns stays unbeaten in 8-A; Chestatee upsets North Hall, Rabun pushes win streak to 16

GAINESVILLE — The Lakeview Academy girls remained unbeaten and atop the Region 8-A standings with a 74-26 drubbing of Athens Christian at home Saturday.

It was the sixth straight win for the Lady Lions (15-4, 4-0 Region 8-A) who will travel to Prince Avenue Christian on Tuesday in a battle for first place in the region.

Freshman Joelle Snyder had one of her best games of the season pouring in a team-high 14 points to go with 4 assists. Jackie Allen added 11 points, 7 steals, and 5 assists, Sadie Thrailkill had 11 points, and Eliza Snyder 10 points and 7 assists for Lakeview.

Lindy Kanaday added 8 points and 4 rebounds and Savannah Kinsey had 7 points and 4 rebounds.

 

CHESTATEE 68,
NORTH HALL 60

The Lady War Eagles (11-9) won their third straight game with an upset of the Class 3A No. 5 Lady Trojans in a non-region contest of rivals at the Chestatee gym.

It also avenged a 48-33 loss to North Hall (13-6) earlier in the season.

Chestatee trailed 32-24 early in the third quarter but outscored North Hall 44-28 over the final 14 minutes.

Maggie McNair led the way for Chestatee with 27 points. Emma Easterwood had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Christina Garcia added 13 points for the Lady War Eagles.

Ansleigh Ferguson had a huge game for North Hall with 31 points and 12 rebounds.

"This game is always... a rivalry game because these girls go to church together, play AAU together and hang out together, and after the way they handled us the first time we played, I think these girls had a little chip on their shoulder," Chestatee girls coach Sutton Shirley said.

Chestatee next will play host to Region 7-4A leader and unbeaten Flowery Branch on Tuesday.

North Hall travels to Fannin County on Tuesday in a key Region 7-3A battle for both teams.

 

RABUN COUNTY 72,
SMOKY MOUNTAIN (N.C.) 61

The Rabun County girls ran their win streak to 14 straight with a win at home Saturday.

Brooke Henricks paced the Lady Wildcats (16-1) with  22 points and 5 rebounds. Laken Stiles had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals while Destiny Deetz added 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Kaitlin Coleman chipped in with 9 points and 5 rebounds for Rabun County.

The Lady Wildcats travel to Oglethorpe County on Tuesday in a Region 8-2A showdown.

 

TOWNS COUNTY 50,
GEORGE WALTON 28

The Lady Indians stayed unbeaten in Region 8-A rolling past the Lady Bulldogs Saturday in Monroe.

Sophomores Vanessa Floyd and Kennedi Henson combined for 37 points to lead the Lady Indians.

Towns County (10-8, 2-0 Region 8-A) is just one-half behind first place Lakeview Academy and will play host to Hebron Christian on Tuesday in a Region 8-A tilt.
