Federal charges could be filed in a SWAT incident that happened in Lumpkin County a week ago.
Hollis Dean Garmon was arrested after a standoff at a residence on Jake's Way in Dahlonega on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Garmon had been wanted on a warrant out of Forsyth County, where he had been accused of assaulting a police officer.
The FBI State Streets Task Force was part of the operation and has been reviewing the case with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
According to information from the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force issued the search warrant for the home of Sonja Pace, a woman identified as Garmon's girlfriend. Members of the task force went to the home along with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and Forsyth County Sheriff's Office hostage negotiators.
Both Pace and Garmon were inside the residence. Pace exited the residence after communicating with authorities, but Garmon remained inside for another hour. Authorities said Garmon exited the home after they deployed C/S gas into the home.
While federal charges are pending, Garmon remains behind bars on the following charges out of Lumpkin County:
- Battery under the Family Violence Act
- Convicted Felons-Possession of Firearms Prohibited
- Possession of Dangerous Drugs-Amphetamine
- Obstructing Police
- Possession of Firearm or Knife During Certain Crimes
- Hold for Forsyth County (Probation Violation)
