McDONOUGH — The North Hall wrestling team continues to gear up for the looming Area and State Duals.
The Trojans knocked off a pair of defending state champions over the weekend in winning the 16-team Union Grove Duals.
North Hall went 3-0 in pool action to advance to the championship bracket.
In the championship bracket, the Trojans took down defending Class 6A state champion Richmond Hill 38-17 to advance to the finals. In the finals, North Hall held off a strong Veterans team 38-20 to claim the title.
Social Circle, the four-time defending Class 2A state champions, finished fourth.
North Hall next will compete in the Area 5-3A Duals at Fannin County beginning Jan. 11. Area 5 also includes northeast Georgia area teams Dawson County and Lumpkin County. The top two teams from the Area Duals will advance to the State Duals tournament in Macon, January 17-19.
