Head named interim fire chief of Forsyth County

Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Barry Head will take over as interim fire chief upon the retirement of Chief Danny Bowman, officials announced Monday.

Bowman is retiring Oct. 16 after a half-century in fire services, and Head will take over on Oct. 17, according to a news release from Forsyth County.

“Chief Head has been a great asset to the Forsyth County Fire Department,” said Eric Johnson, county manager, in a statement.

“He is a qualified leader and is well respected both within and outside the department. Our residents can be assured that Chief Head will continue the excellent job our fire department does in providing life-saving services to our community.”

Bowman has been with Forsyth County since 2001.

Head has been with the county since 1990, serving as a dispatcher for the sheriff's office, firefighter, fire inspector, fire lieutenant, fire division chief and fire marshal.

He has served as the division chief of field operations since 2017.
