More development is headed for the busy Dawsonville Highway corridor in Gainesville.
City Council unanimously approved rezoning to General Business for a 6.8 acre tract of land next to Academy Sports for a fitness center. The project would also include a restaurant and some retail stores, according to the plan presented at Tuesday night's voting session.
One of the conditions of the zoning was the prohibition of motels and extended stay hotels on the property. In addition, the rezoning requires the developer to make parking lot connections that will facilitate traffic flow in the area.
The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board approved the request for the project in August.
