Gwinnett County man enters guilty plea in daughter's starvation death

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) A Gwinnett County man has entered a plea in his toddler daughter's starvation death in 2014.

Calvin Mcintosh, 48, entered an Alford plea in Gwinnett County Court on Tuesday to felony murder and three counts of child cruelty. An Alford plea does not admit guilt, but concedes there is enough evidence for a conviction.

Judge Melodie Conner sentenced Mcintosh to life in prison, with the chance of parole after 30 years, plus 30 years of probation.

Investigators say Mcintosh went to a Sandy Springs hospital in 2014 with his 15-month daughter, Alcenti, and said the girl was not breathing. She was pronounced dead. During court proceedings, prosecutors said Mcintosh was involved in the Nuwaubian Nation of Moors cult.

Prosecutor Rich Vandever said charges of starving and false imprisonment of the baby's mother, Iasia Sweeting, were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
