Volleyball: Buford, East Hall, North Hall sweep; GHS splits in 8-6A; Branch beats Jefferson

WALNUT GROVE — Buford stayed perfect in Area 8-5A after sweeping a pair of area matches Tuesday in girls volleyball action on the road.

The Lady Wolves (14-6, 3-0 Area 8-5A) knocked off host Walnut Grove 25-14, 25-18 and then held off Johnson 25-15, 25-11 in the second match.

Gabbie Hogle guided the offense with 19 assists while Mikayla Hayden hammered home 15 kills for Buford. Julieanne Saliba added 12 digs on defense for the Lady Wolves.

Buford next will take on St. Pius on Thursday at home in a non-area match.

 

GAINESVILLE SPLITS 8-6A MATCHES

The Lady Red Elephants split a pair of Area 8-6A matches Tuesday night at Lanier.

Ganesvile opened with a tough loss to Apalachee 25-14, 25-18 but responded with a 2-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-20) come-from-behind win over Dacula.

Ansley Turner paced the Lady Red Elephants with 3 aces, 13 kills, and 19 digs. Isabella Appling added 5 aces and 33 digs, Camille Calkins had 3 kills and 5 blocks, and Camille Holcomb had 14 assists and 8 digs for Gainesville.

Lauren Ware added 3 kills and 14 digs, Lauren Teasley and Olivia Gettys had 7 and 6 blocks, respectively, while Anna Grace Worley had an ace and 5 digs. Isabella Garrish had an ace, 9 assists and 8 digs.

Gainesville (11-16, 3-3 Area 8-6A) next will play host to Dawson County on Thursday.

 

EAST HALL SWEEPS PICKENS, BLUFF

East Hall improved to 23-5, 2-1 in Area 7-3A with wins over Pickens and Cherokee Bluff on Tuesday.

Lady Vikings whipped Pickens in straight sets 25-13, 25-17 and then rallied from a set down to beat Cherokee Bluff in 3 sets 16-25, 25-22, 25-19. 

Savannah Thellman scored 7 points on serve with 2 aces, 4 kills, 16 digs and 40 assists to pace East Hall. Ivey Shadburn scored 15 points on serve with 4 aces and 10 digs, Janelly Lara added 16 points on serve with 1 ace, 15 kills, 3 assists, 1 block and 26 digs, and Alysia Teague scored 15 points on serve with 3 aces, 4 kills, 1 assist and 27 digs for the Lady Vikings.

Nehemiah Jinks had 23 kills, 2 digs and 5 blocks, Lakeria Whelchel scored 8 points on serve with 2 aces, 16 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs and 3 blocks, and Elizabeth Mojica added 9 points on serve with 1 ace, 1 kill, 1 assist and 21 digs for East Hall.

The Lady Vikings next play host to Union County and Lanier Christian Academy in a tri-match on Thursday.

 

NORTH HALL SWEEPS

The Lady Trojans took a pair of Area 7-3A matches Tuesday.

North Hall knocked off Fannin County 25-23, 25-19 and then routed Lumpkin County 25-16, 25-9 in the second match.

Maci Gillespie paced North Hall with 38 assists, 5 aces, 1 kill, and 5 digs. Grace Hollifield added 19 kills and 4 blocks, Madison Brock had 15 kills, 2 ace, and 12 digs, and Dovie Williams had 8 kills, 1 ace, and 2 blocks for the Lady Trojans.

Alexandria  Bryant had 11 kills, 7 aces, and 26 digs, Zoe Finelli had 16 digs, Bella Foster 32 digs, Caitlyn Miller 1 ace, and Mackenzie Crisp had 1 ace and 1 kill for North Hall.

 

BRANCH COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OF JEFFERSON

Flowery Branch swept the season series with Jefferson Tuesday taking a 3-1 victory over the Lady Dragons at home.

The Lady Falcons took a solid 25-13, 25-16, 26-28, 25-12 win.

Flowery Branch had a balanced attack led by senior Oriah Ware with 38 assists. Senior Pheobe Hammond had 6 aces, junior Katie Williams added 20 kills, and junior Sierra Lutz contributed with 6.5 blocks.

The Lady Falcons next travel to Lumpkin County on Thursday before resuming area play. next week.
