Softball: Chestatee inches closer to final playoff spot in 7-4A; Jefferson increases slim 8-3A lead; Buford falls

GAINESVILE — Elizabeth Eddins scattered four hits and allowed just one run to lead Chestatee to a 4-1 win over Blessed Trinity Tuesday in Region 7-4A girls softball action.

Eddins went the distance striking out 15 and walking just one.

Chestatee (6-12, 3-6 Region 7-4A) moved within two games of Blessed Trinity (12-8, 5-4) for the fourth spot in the standings. The two teams will meet again on Thursday in Roswell.

The Lady War Eagles scored a pair of runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth after the Lady Titans pulled within 2-1 in the fifth.

 

JEFFERSON 3,
HART COUNTY 0

Emily Perrin tossed a no-hitter Tuesday as the Lady Dragons increased their lead in Region 8-3A.

Jefferson  (18-5, 10-1 Region 8-3A) leads Jackson (14-8, 8-2) by 1 1/2 games with just over a week left in the regular season.

Perrin struck out 13 and allowed just 1 baserunner for the game.

Meanwhile, Emily Matthews had two hits and Sam Vinson had a hit and a RBI to pace the Jefferson offense.

 

LUMPKIN COUNTY 4,
GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN 0

The Lady Indians maintained their second place position in Region 7-3A with a shutout win over the Lady Spartans on the road.
 
Lumpkin County (15-6, 6-2 Region 7-3A) scored a run in the first to grab the quick lead and added two in the fourth and one more in the fifth. 
 
The win kept the Lady Indians percentage points ahead of third place North Hall (10-8, 7-3) and both trail first place East Hall (11-8, 9-0). Lumpkin County and North Hall will meet one more time next Tuesday in what could be a final battle for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
 
However, before that Lumpkin County next will take on Cherokee Bluff at home on Thursday in another key region contest.
 
 

LOGANVILLE 7,
BUFORD 2

Buford fell behind quickly and never recovered in a Region 8-5A battle on the road Tuesday.
 
Loganville scored two runs in the each of the first and second innings and another in the third to run out to a 5-0 lead. Buford trimmed the lead to 5-2 in the fourth but the Lady Red Devils plated a pair of runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

It was the 13th consecutive win for Loganville (15-5, 3-0 Area 8-5A), who is tied with Walnut Grove atop the region standings.

The lone bright spot for the Lady Wolves (9-8, 1-2) was senior Shea Bayreuther, who belted her first career varsity home run in the fourth, a two-run shot. Junior Kaitlyn Pickens (2-2) took the loss lasting just 1 1/3 innings surrendering four runs on five hits and walking two. Seniors Katie Perkins and Mariah Wicker each had two hits for Buford.

The Lady Wolves next will play host to Johnson on Senior Night on Thursday.
