Lawrenceville man turns himself in in fatal hit and run

After police last week ask for the public's help identifying the vehicle and driver that struck and killed a 79 year old woman in Lawrenceville, the driver has turned himself in.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports Leonard Decouto of Lawrenceville went to police Monday night after pressure from his family.

He faces vehicular homicide, felony hit and run and failure to maintain lane charges.

Lawrenceville Police Department Lt. Jake Parker told the paper Decouto was driving a U-Haul truck on Johnson Road on September 10 when he veered from the road, striking Tran Hong.

Hong was pronounced dead at the scene. The paper reports Decouto is accused of leaving before police could arrive.

The Post said it isn't known if Decouto faces additional charges or if he will be given bond once he is booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.
