Gainesville's Kipper Tool Company wins purging kit contract with US Army

By AccessWDUN Staff

Gainesville-based Kipper Tool has received a contract from the United States Army for a Fire Control Purging Kit.

The kit is encased in a waterproof, airtight, heavy-duty container that has passed rigorous testing over the past few months – including submersion tests, multiple drop tests, extreme temperature tests and more.

Fire Control Purging Kits, more often referred to as “Purging Kits,” are specifically organized to provide soldiers with all components needed to purge fire control systems in two maintenance levels: field and sustainment. Each kit consists of a toolbox with a hinged lid and various valves, hoses, fittings, and regulators.

Project manager, Jeremy Shockley, explains, “The usual operating procedure will be to transport the chest to the work site, open it, remove the components on an “as required” basis, and replace the component(s) in its specified location when the maintenance task is completed.”  The key to winning this contract is that Kipper Tool Company includes custom-engineered thick foam inside each container for the Purging Kits, allowing for rapid inventory upon arrival to the worksite, and once the task is completed.

The contract is for five years and is expected to produce approximately 800 units.
