Dawson County hands Denmark first loss

By AccessWDUN

ALPHARETTA — SeVaughn Clark and Ahmad Kamara continue to show why Dawson County will be a force to be reckoned with in Region 7-3A -- and perhaps beyond.

The duo combined for 233 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Clark added another 154 yards passing with a pair of touchdown tosses to lead the Tigers to a 38-21 victory over Denmark Friday night on the road.

The Tigers (4-0) exploded for 24 consecutive points into the fourth quarter to break a 14-14 first quarter tie with the Danes (3-1). Dawson County had taken a 14-7 late in the first quarter on a 34-yard scoring strike from Clark to Ryan Glass. But the Danes tied it back up on a 56-yard interception return.

But the second quarter was all Tigers, who scored 17 points in the period on a 12-yard Kamara touchdown run, a 1-yard Clark sneak, and a 28-yard field goal by Caleb Bonesteel for a 31-14 halftime lead.

Dawson County extended the lead to 38-14 on a 7-yard Clark scoring run late in the third quarter. Denmark added a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter for the final score.

Denmark quarterback Ben Whitlock finished 19 of 39 passing for 291 yards and a pair of touchdowns but also was picked off three times. The Tigers also held the Danes ground attack to just 18 yards total.

Dawson County next will play host to arch-rival Lumpkin County (2-2) in both teams' Region 7-3A on Sept. 21.

Denmark will open its Region 7-4A schedule next week traveling to Chestatee (1-3) which picked up its first win of the season on Friday night.
