UPDATE: Towns County officers seek attempted murder suspect

Towns County Sheriff Chris Clinton has released more information about the woman wanted in connection with a Saturday shooting in that county.

Deputies responded to Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee Saturday night for a man who suffered a bullet wound to the chest.

That man has been identified as William Craig Henderson of Young Harris, according to Clinton. He was airlifted from Hiawassee to another hospital with a trauma center and at last report remained in stable condition.

Towns County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified and secured warrants for Crystal LeAnn Carter, 37, of Hiawassee. She faces one count each of criminal attempt to commit murder, and aggravated assault.

After dropping off Henderson at the hospital, Carter drove away in the victim’s Chevrolet Tahoe, Clinton said. The vehicle was found abandoned later Saturday night in the parking lot of the Marathon station on Highway 75 North in Hiawassee.

Sheriff’s detectives determined that Carter left the Marathon station in her own red Ford pickup. Sunday afternoon, with the assistance of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Towns County detectives located the red Ford pickup at a residence in Clay County, N.C.

Carter is considered armed and dangerous, Clinton said. She is believed to be in the Hiawassee area or the Hayesville, N.C., area.

Anyone with information about Carter’s location is asked to call Towns County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 896-4444. Anyone who sees Carter is asked to dial 9-1-1 immediately, and not approach her.
