Trey Gibson and Luke Sorrow closed out the regular season at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina in fine form on Friday night.
Both drivers scored NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car feature wins, with Sorrow taking home the track’s division championship.
In the first feature, Gibson, who hails from Easley, South Carolina, held off Sorrow to record his first win of the season at Anderson. Austin Green finished in third, with Justin Milliken in fourth and Kenneth Headen in fifth.
In the second feature, it was Sorrow, from Belton, South Carolina, recording his third win of the season. Green came home in second, with Gibson in third, R.A. Brown in fourth and Kenneth Headen in fifth.
Sorrow’s three wins in 10 starts was the most of any LMSC competitor of the season at Anderson. That, couple with 13 top 5 and 14 top 10 finishes, gave him the points title by just two markers over Gibson at the end of the night.
In other action, Alan Rich held off Rick Kelley to score the Limited feature victory. Philip Peters finished in third, with Jonathan Fleming in fourth and Billy Brown in fifth. Steve Carver finished in sixth, taking home the division championship by just three points over Brown.
Brandon Segars topped the BM Modifieds field to record the win. Sam Brown finished in second, with Trent Smith third, Adam Callaham fourth and Jamie Winslett fifth. Austin Northcutt finished seventh, but wrapped up the division championship on the strength of six feature wins on the season.
Jeffrey Kummer scored the win and the division championship in the Mini Stock division. With seven wins on the season, Kummer beat out Ryan Howard by 25 points for the title. David Darnell finished second on Friday night, with Chuck Mitchell, Brad Burdette and Ben Kay rounding out the top five.
Chris Whitfield took the Renegade feature victory and the division championship on Friday night. David Whitaker finished in second on Friday night, and trailed Whitfield in by 15 points in the title chase.
Riley Halverson held off Ryan Rackley to score the US Legends feature victory. Lee Jordan finished in third, taking home the division championship by a margin of 16 points over fourth place finisher Karl Moberg. Scott Wessel finished in fifth.
Scott Parker swept the Front Wheel Drive feature and the division title with a win on Friday night over Manuel Molleda, who trailed Parker by 61 points in the final tally. Casey Burkett finished in third on Friday night, followed by Shane Brown in fourth and Carey Smith in fifth.
While the regular race season may be over for Anderson Motor Speedway, the track’s biggest race of the year is set for Monday, September 3. The track will hold the ninth annual Rupert Porter Memorial Shrine Race on Labor Day, featuring a 100 lap race for the Late Model Stock cars, along with action from all of Anderson’s other regular divisions.
