A Gainesville man has been convicted in an April 2017 murder, and he has been sentenced to life in prison.

According to Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh, a jury convicted Marquis Lejon Studivant Thursday afternoon on all charges he was facing in connection with the murder of Dennis Ronald Gayton.

The victim was shot and killed in front of his teenage son during an apparent drug deal on Carlton Street. Studivant was arrested on September 22, 2017.

Studivant was handed a life prison sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Darragh said Studivant also was handed a five-year sentence for a firearms charge.

Darragh said Assistant District Attorneys Harold Buckler and Tauri Thomas prosecuted the case.
