Dr. Bill Coates has announced he will retire as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Gainesville.
Associate Pastor for Administration Kent Murphey confirmed Monday morning Dr. Coates retirement.
He added that he believes Coates will remain in the community, just step away from leadership and that he is looking forward to retirement.
Coates said Sunday during the message his last sermon will be August 19.
