By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

A longtime advocate for the disabled, Justin Pressley of Gainesville, will be buried Monday.

Pressley, 46,  passed away Friday at his residence.

He was an advocate for the disabled at the local, state and national levels.

Pressley was a founding Commissioner of the Georgia Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund, serving as its first treasurer, and he remained a member of the public policy and finance committees.  In addition, he volunteered for ten years as Vice President and Treasurer of Access Hall County, Inc., and co-founded the Access Center for Independent Living.

He had served on the advisory board of North Georgia Health System and was a founding board member of Our Neighbor, Inc.

Pressley had been involved in the disability rights movement since the early 90s with Adapt, and the National Organization on Disability, and was currently a Core Leader for Georgia for the National Participant Network.  He was serving on the Georgia Advisory Committee to the United States Civil Rights Commission, was a founder of Access to a Better Tomorrow and also served on the Georgia Rehabilitation Council.

On Saturday, tributes on Pressley's Facebook page included:

"R.I.P. & God bless you and your family.  A real trooper gone too early!  So sad."

"Fly with the angels, Justin."

"R.I.P. Justin Pressley.  I'll never forget you."

The funeral will be at 1:00 Monday, August 6, in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.   Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
