Update: Sunday house fire in Oakwood called accidental.

By Staff
OAKWOOD - Hall County Fire Services responded to a residential fire early Sunday morning in the 5000 block of Valley Court in Oakwood.

Arriving units found a 2500 square-feet home with heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure.

Hall County Fire Captain Zachary Brackett says, "The fire was attacked from a defensive posture at first with interior operations taking place once the bulk of the fire was knocked down."

The home’s occupants were awakened by the noise of the fire and were safely out of the home upon arrival of the first responders.

No injuries were reported according to Brackett.

Brackett added that the home had functioning smoke detectors but they failed to activate.  "Somebody woke up and heard the fire outside, and then woke everyone else up.  That is something that we do look at, to see if there were smoke detectors...in this case there were but they did not activate."

While Brackett did not have an estimate of the damage done by the fire he did say, "Looking at the picture I'd say it was pretty significant damage done to the home."

Brackett said Monday, the cause of the fire is being called accidental and caused an estimated $150,000 damage.
