Pearson, Jr., Bloomquist split Lucas Oil LMDS victories

By Series PR

In four Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series races, Earl Pearson, Jr. and Scott Bloomquist have divvied up the victories.

Earl Pearson, Jr. scored the win on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and on Tuesday at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Bloomquist was victorious on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri and on Wednesday night at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex.

On Friday night, Pearson, Jr. bolted from his ninth starting spot to win the NAPA Know How 50 at Tri-City Speedway. Pearson took the lead on lap 37 from Jimmy Owens and went on to his third series win of the season.

Owens finished in second with Tim McCreadie coming home in third. Mason Zeigler was fourth, followed by Bobby Pierce in fifth.

Tony Jackson Jr. grabbed the lead at the start of the main event and led the first 33 circuits before Owens forged. Pearson quickly began to pressure Owens for the top spot and was able to gain the advantage with 13 laps to go.

“Jimmy (Owens) was awful good tonight. I watched him in the heat race and knew he would be hard to beat tonight. I just married myself to the bottom,” said the 46-year-old Pearson in Victory Lane. “He (Owens) slipped up just a little bit down there in the corner and I held my line around the bottom. Thanks to my crew, J.C. Wright, Garrett Alberson, and Marshall Hooter, they all did a great job tonight.”

On Saturday night, Scott Bloomquist took the lead on lap 32 and then pulled away to his 600th career victory on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway during the CMH Diamond Nationals. The Hall-of-Fame driver picked up his sixth series win of the season and his all-time series leading 92nd victory.

Owens led the first 31 laps of the race as he looked to capitalize on his past Lucas Oil Speedway success. Bloomquist, who re-started third on the grid after a caution for debris, went around both Owens and Zeigler for the lead which he stretched out over the final laps of the race.

In Victory Lane, Bloomquist stated that there were so many people to thank as he reached his milestone 600th career victory.

“It seems like it’s been a few years since we got number 500 at Brownstown. It’s basically been me and Cody Mallory the last few years. We put in so many hours in the shop. It was a good race for the fans. They may have finally got the track to where it’s right up there with the best in the country. We are going to keep working hard and maybe we can get to 700 someday.”

On Tuesday night, Pearson Jr. charged from his eighth starting spot to win the Bullet SportsWear Shootout at Brown County Speedway.

South Dakota veteran Scott Ward grabbed the lead at the start of the 50-lap main event. Ward led the first seven laps of the race until Bobby Pierce took control. Ward fought back regaining the top spot a lap later. Pierce then moved ahead again on lap ten.

Pierce and Ward ran one-two until Ward left the track and headed to the pit area on lap 31. The first of two cautions appeared on lap 34 for Brandon Sheppard in turn four. On the restart, Blairsville, Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport and Pierce swapped the lead several times. Pearson made his late-race charge to take the lead on lap 42.

With just two laps remaining, Pierce slipped off top edge of the track entering turn one. Pearson forged ahead and went on to his fourth victory of the season. Josh Richards edged out Pierce at the finish line for second. Ricky Weiss finished fourth with Don O’Neal in fifth.

“First off I want to say hi to all of family and friends back in Jacksonville,” Pearson said. “What a heck of a race there. We fell back to seventh or eighth there for a while. We had to get to the bottom of the track. When we restarted in third, we got high in turn one and I knew I had to get back down low. Bobby was giving it all he had there up top. I could see him and hear his motor and then he disappeared. It was a good points night for sure.”

On Wednesday night, Bloomquist led all 50 laps in the first-ever appearance by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Jackson Motorplex.

Davenport and Richards tracked down Bloomquist in the final laps of the race, but came up second and third, respectively. Pierce was in the hunt the entire race and came home in fourth. Brandon Sheppard recovered from a lap one collision to take the fifth spot.

The 54-year-old, three-time series champion went to Victory Lane for the series-leading seventh time this season.

“I don’t know what it is because we have no notes going into these first-time tracks,” Blomquist said. “I told the crew when we pulled in that we were a lock for the win. We just came here to rock-and-roll and let her go.

“This is quite a beautiful facility. The track reminds me a lot of Knoxville. It has the berm on the bottom and you can race on this track. It holds moisture very well. We need to go to more tracks like this. I ran hard out there. I am ready now to head to Nebraska and try to take their $53,000 on Saturday night.”
