Chase Burdette nabs first Hartwell Modified Street victory

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Chase Burdette came in Saturday night’s Modified Street feature at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway having never visited the track’s victory lane.

The Comer, Georgia driver was able to mark that destination off his wish list, as he scored the win at the 3/8 mile clay raceway.

Burdette started the feature on the outside of the front row, and as the field powered through turns one and two, he found himself on the outside of a three-wide battle for the lead with pole sitter Arti Ridgeway in the middle and veteran driver Thomas Segars on the inside.

Burdette was able to grab the lead, and held off a hard charge from Segars to hold the spot off turn four as the field completed the first lap.

From there, Burdette led the rest of the way in the 15-lap feature, but was dogged at every step by Segars. In the end, it was Burdette taking home the victory, with Segars in second, Royce Bray in third, Preston Strickland in fourth and Johnny Pilgrim in fifth.

In other action, Dustin Mincey powered to the lead on the opening lap of the combined Limited and Crate Late Model feature, and would drive away to a sizeable lead en route to the win.

Rod Roberts finished in second, with Galen Robinson in third, Eric Veal in fourth and Derrick Harvey in fifth.

Shane Yarbrough took the lead on the start of the Hobby feature, and went on to hold off Alex Yarbrough and Shun Thomas for the victory. Boo Man Galloway finished in fourth, with Jimmy Mason in fifth.

Mark Chancey drove away from the Stock V8 field, and led wire-to-wire for the win. Seth Brown came home in second, with Keith Ross in third and Chris Brown in fourth.

Justin Taylor was the winner in the Stock Four feature, with Daniel Booth, Dustin Bales, Cody Albright and Cody Peppers rounding out the top five.

Randy Shaw held off Joel Powell, Sr. to claim the victory in the Up Front feature. Kalen Holmes finished in third, followed by Alex Powell in fourth and Michael Davis in fifth.
