Wet weather washes out area racing plans for some

By Brandon Reed Reporter

While the rains stayed away for the most part across North Georgia over the past race weekend, Mother Nature did wreak havoc for a few area racing events.

On Saturday night, Winder-Barrow Speedway in Winder, Georgia was slated to host the Lucas Oil Southern States Midget Car Series, along with action in local divisions. But late afternoon downpours left the raceway flooded, leading race officials to cancel the event.

Winder-Barrow is slated to return to action on Saturday, July 21. For more information, visit WinderBarrowSpeedway.net.

Also on Saturday night, Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia was set to host a double points race for it’s local divisions, but wet weather got the better of the track, leading officials to call the event a washout.

The speedway is next scheduled to race on Saturday, July 21, with regular divisions on tap. Visit SenoiaRaceway.com for more information.

Things weren’t much better for some speedways earlier in the week. Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Thursday Thunder race for Legends and Bandolero cars on the track’s fronstretch “Thunder Ring” was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The next Thursday Thunder event is scheduled for this Thursday, July 19. Visit the track’s website, AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com, for updates.
