Two arrested for counterfeiting in Oakwood

By Scott Kimbler, B.J. Williams
Two alleged counterfeiters are behind bars after passing around fake cash at two Oakwood businesses.

Oakwood Police Sgt. Todd Templeton said the counterfeit bills showed up at Walmart on June 26 and Captain D's on June 29.

"The counterfeits were a combination of various denominations - some twenties, tens and even some ones," Templeton said.

He said investigators started reviewing surveillance video from the two locations and saw a couple who were in both businesses when the fake money was passed.

"We were able to identify the male and female as being Matthew Allen Turner and Lora Wolfe," Templeton said.

He said the two suspects were tracked to a home in Flowery Branch, where they were found hiding in a bedroom.

Officers with the Oakwood Police Department and the Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad searched the home and found counterfeit currency, altered money orders and a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine, according to Templeton.

Templeton said investigators were familiar with Turner because he had been arrested in 2017 for purchasing vehicles with counterfeit money.

Turner faces multiple forgery charges in the case, while Wolfe has been charged as a party to the crimes.
