WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump appeared to lean toward choosing Judge Brett Kavanaugh early in the search for a new Supreme Court justice.

People with knowledge of the president's views tell The Associated Press that the Yale-educated judge impressed Trump and that the president made the case for Kavanaugh to Republican lawmakers last week.

While Trump continued to consider others on his short list and asked friends and allies about his options, one person familiar with the deliberations says Trump's mind was all but made up on Kavanaugh by Saturday.

It's not clear whether Trump's interest in candidates other than Kavanaugh was because he was truly still uncertain or, wanted to maintain the suspense or a combination of both.
