A woman is recovering from injuries she received in a fall from a hiking trail at Dukes Creek Falls on Monday afternoon.

The recreation area is located off Richard Russell Highway in northern White County.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said emergency responders were called to the scene around 12:30 p.m. to find a female hiker, approximately 58 years of age, who had fallen down an embankment off the trail. He estimated the woman had fallen 30-40 feet.

Rescue personnel from White Co Fire & EMS, Helen Fire and LACI fire brigade responded to the scene.  A Department of Natural Resources aviation unit responded to assist in airlifting the patient to an awaiting ambulance.

The patient was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for evaluation and treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The operation lasted around 2 ½  hours, according to Murphy.
