Kentucky woman remains jailed in North Georgia on marijuana charges

A Kentucky woman arrested late last month after North Georgia officers found 100 pounds of marijuana in her vehicle has been denied bond.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said Angela McEntyre was traveling southbound on I-85 around 7:30 p.m. on June 28. One of his deputies stopped her for speeding and found the drugs inside the vehicle.

"The deputy smelled an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle," Thomas told Georgia News Network.

Thomas said when the deputies investigated, they found a big stash of marijuana in the passenger seat and the cargo area of McEntyre's SUV.

"The deputy located four duffel bags filled with marijuana," Thomas said. "The marijuana was packaged in sealed vacuum bags...it was estimated at over 100 pounds."

Thomas estimated the street value of the illegal drugs at around $250,000.
