Updated: Jackson County SWAT standoff ends Friday with suspect shot, in custody.

A SWAT standoff in Jackson County comes to an end Friday evening with a suspect shot and in custody.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said her deputies responded about 4 p.m. when a woman called 9-1-1 and said she had been shot by her son at a home on Charles Cooper Road.

Mangum said when the deputies arrived, the son opened fire on them, hitting the patrol cars and a UPS truck.

"I am not sure how many shots were fired," Mangum said. "My deputies told me that they were shot at several times."

Mangum said the suspect was shot and wounded during the exchange of gunfire.

She added when the shooting slowed down, one officer was able to put the woman in his patrol car and take her to a safer location to await medical attention.

Mangum said shortly before 8 p.m. SWAT officers from Hall County and the Georgia State Patrol used a flash-bang device to enter the home and take the man into custody.

Both the mother and her wounded son were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Mangum said the suspect appears to have non-life threatening injuries, while the mother suffered three gunshot wounds to the back.

Names have not yet been released.

Mangum said the two officers involved in the initial shootout were not injured and will be placed on administrative leave.

Mangum said deputies were assisted by Jefferson Police, Braselton Police, Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Invistigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be conducting the follow up investigation.
