Franklin County petitions FCC for Georgia TV programming

After several years of trying, Franklin county moves one step closer towards being able to offer it's residents television programming from Georgia instead of only from South Carolina.

Due to regulations within the Federal Communications Committee, counties like Elbert, Franklin, Hart, and Stephens can only receive the out of state TV programs because they are geographically closer to the Greenville or Asheville market than Atlanta, the next nearest TV market in Georgia.

Franklin County Manager Beth Thomas told commissioners she submitted the market modification petition to the FCC that could allow residents to receive more Georgia news, weather, and sports.

Representative Doug Collins also filed his own comment with the FCC in support of the change.

Franklin county began the process in 2015 and will be the first in the Ninth District to petition the FCC to be switched to a Georgia market using an act authored by Collins back in 2014.
