Thomas claims Summer Sizzler win at Senoia Raceway

By Track PR

SENOIA, Ga. - Jimmy Thomas topped the Late Model Sportsman field to score the Summer Sizzler victory at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on Saturday night.

The win came on a wet, soggy, rough surface on the 3/8 mile clay raceway thanks to recent rain showers that kept drivers focused all night.

Fourteen-year-old McKenna Nelms qualified the fastest among the forty-three racers in the Late Model Sportsman. Nelms missed her starting point a bit allowing veteran Keith McGuire to charge out to the early lead in the feature. Nelms would spin a few laps later and would be relegated to the rear of the field.

When racing resumed, Thomas made the move on McGuire to snare the lead on lap seven, while Cory Compton followed. McGuire’s drop continued as one lap later Austin Scarborough came charging past. McGuire would be sidelined on lap nine.

Scarborough caught up to Thomas and was challenging for the lead when the final caution of the race came out. This proved to be what Thomas needed, while it was not for Scarborough. On the final restart, Thomas opened up a several car length lead, while Monte Vaughn bypassed Scarborough. Thomas would win, with Vaughn in second and Scarborough in third.

In the Limited Late Model main event, points leader Dennis Hale went for a wild ride after getting caught up with Joseph Brown on a lap four restart. Hale slammed into the front stretch wall and then bit into the track, sending him into a barrel roll that landed his car on its roof. Hale was ok, but his car was done for the night.

Ronnie Johnson went on to score the victory, with Joey Armistead in second, Pearson Lee Williams in third.

Dusty Jones scored the victory in the Crate Late Modle feature. Chase Edge finished in second, with Joshua Bishop in third.

Keith West took the win in the Hobby feature, with Sam Carter and Ted Willingham rounding out the top three.

Dorough Bright held off Scott Amoson for the Bomber feature victory. Michael Thomas finished in third, with Mike Nelms in fourth and Carley Arnett in fifth.

Josh Allen was the winner in the Hot Shot feature. Michael Fuller finished in second, with Stacey Henderson in third, Joseph Collins in fourth and Nathan Farrow in fifth.

Tommy Faulkner took the Mini Stock feature victory, followed by Tyler Waits in second, Jamie Nicholson, Sr. in third, Bob Faulkner in fourth and Josh Till in fifth.
