Habersham wreck results in serious injuries to two teens

Two teens were seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Habersham County Saturday night that also hurt three other people.

A 2016 Kia Forte driven by Dylan Wade Lovell, 18, of Gillsville was traveling west on Hulsey Road at its intersection with Ga. 365 northbound. The vehicle crossed the northbound lanes into the divided area, then attempted to cross the southbound lanes, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Lovell’s Kia was struck in the right rear passenger door by a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by James David Rogers, 66, of Cornelia, according to GSP.

After impact, the Kia began to travel south and struck a stop sign with its left front fender, then rotated and came to rest on the right shoulder facing north.

Lovell’s passengers, 17-year-old Hailey Purdy of Clarkesville and 15-year-old Naomi Crow of Gillsville, suffered serious injuries, according to GSP. Purdy was airlifted from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, while Crow was taken by ambulance to NGMC.

Lovell, Rogers and Rogers’ passenger, 72-year-old Mary Rogers of Cornelia, all suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to GSP.
