Woman burned in Gainesville house fire

Medical crews transported a Hall County woman to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for burns after the side of the duplex she lives in caught fire Saturday afternoon.

Hall County Fire Services Captain Zach Brackett said firefighters arrived at the home on Spring Street in the New Holland area and found heavy fire on the left side of the duplex and no one seemed to be home.

He said Gainesville fire personnel assisted in extinguishing the aggressive blaze.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center personnel notified the fire department about a patient who arrived by car to the emergency room with second to third degree burns to 30% of her body- primarily on her back. They told fire officials that the woman was being airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and after some exploration, investigators determined that she resided in the side of the duplex that caught fire.

At this time, Brackett said there's no other information about the identity of the woman and the investigation into the case of the fire remains active.
