Diamond Dogs-Campbell first round game moved to Saturday

ATHENS — Georgia baseball's first NCAA tournament game in seven years will have to wait for one more day.

Mother Nature continued its assault of northeast Georgia Friday raining out the Bulldogs 7:30 p.m. opener against Campbell at Foley Field. The decision came from the NCAA around 7:30 p.m. after the first game of the day between Duke and Troy was halted in the fifth inning because of lightning and later rain in the Classic City.

The Duke-Troy game did not resume until 9:15 p.m. after a 5 hour, 25 minute rain delay and that forced a reshuffling of Saturday's schedule.

Originally only two games were scheduled for Saturday. Now, Georgia  (37-19) the top seed in the regional, will take on No. 4-seed Campbell (35-24) at noon on Saturday. The loser of that game will take on No. 2 seed Duke, which was shutout 6-0 by No. 3 seed Troy, at 4 p.m. Troy will take on the Georgia-Campbell winner at  8 p.m.

The Sunday schedule is still in tact, for now.

The Bulldogs are the No. 8 national seed in the 2018 tournament.
