Early-morning fire destroys White County home, damages vehicles

CLEVELAND – Three adults and two small children escaped safely when their White County mobile home was destroyed by fire early Thursday.

White County firefighters, with automatic aid from Cleveland Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department, responded to the fire on Wooten Road, Cleveland, just before 5 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the mobile home was about half involved by fire, said White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.

“Thankfully, all occupants were out of the home,” Murphy said. “According to the occupants, they smelled smoke and saw fire in the home and ran out.”

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the home sustained extensive damage, and three vehicles received heavy heat damage.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the home’s occupants.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters remained on scene for three hours.

Murphy said it is unknown at this time if there were smoke alarms in the home.
